Microsoft is now pushing into the wonderful world of Personal webpages….yet again. There are some nice features. You can create a game, a mashup, or a webpage, and share with everyone, but this comes in a little late in the game. Google Pages with their Gears and Yahoo’s 360 have dominated this space for some time. The only way I think this product can make it big is if a FREE (yes, I said free) tool/plug-in incoroprates Popfly services into Windows OS and Office Suites. Also, allow users to create games using their choice of tools and upload to the Game hosting service.
Microsoft comes up with some wonderful services, but just like Yahoo it somehow messes up when the time has come to pull it all together and show the unified story. Anywho, jump to the link and try it out yourself. Who knows, may be this fits your fancy :)
I love me some of this commercial. It’s surreal, and intelligent. In my opinion, a bit too much for the “average joe” looking for a computer. There are supposed to be more in the sequence of this commercial series. Let’s hope the next ones are more direct than this one. For most consumers, this is not going to cut it. May be they are setting a stage for a much better, much direct, much focused campaign against those Mac vs PC ads. I hope.
UPDATE: You can find a High-Quality version on Windows homepage.
Wow, talk about being direct to your customers. Microsoft seems to be getting grip on these commercials. I love these ads. Microsoft is quickly shifting gears; from vague and witty Seinfeld commercials to quite a direct response to “I’m a Mac” commercials by Apple. At present they seem more like a defending-the-Microsoft-brand commercials, but a few more ads in these series and they may have something quite substantial in their hands. Tell me what you think.
I had heard/read some good press about IE8. I was bored today and decided to download an app I hadn’t used it in a long time. So I thought, hey.. Microsoft has been making some noise these days, and I am loving the new Zune 3.0. I wonder what else they’re upto? Went to Microsoft.com and got myself an installment of the IE8 beta 2. And boy am I pleasantly surprised! They’ve really hit the nail on this release. The UI is just crisp and clean. On-demand favorites and links are much welcomed. It’s only been less than 15 minutes, and I’m loving this software. Two of my favorite features are Web Slices and Accelerators. I’ll add some of my favorite slices and accelerators in near future. Wow, Microsoft, wow. You seem to be working hard at this now. On a side note, I welcome the mother ship’s decision to remove those photo/video/email apps from Windows 7. Another step in the right direction.
I love thee Microsoft. I always have. It’s just the darn Windows OS that sucks. Everything else you make, blows my mind. Here’s another wonderful technology come out from Microsoft R&D. I hope this stuff and more things like it, actually make it to the masses. Most of the things produced at Microsoft Research is rarely visible in consumer market at consumer-friendly prices. C’mon MS, figure this out and make us all happy.
I give my Two Thumbs Up (whatever they’re worth) for this innovation.
Author of the Mach microkernel (used in many of Microsoft’s products, OS X, iPhone, many Unix OSs, etc), Rick Rashid, presented the last keynote at Microsoft’s Professional Developer’s Conference (PDC). Being the head of Microsoft Research, he presented what’s next in near future for Microsoft. With the help of other researchers, he demoed the projects to PDC audience. Everything from SensorMap (using sensors to understand environment/surrounding) to SecondLight (a hidden second image into Surface’s main display that can be displayed by using a translucent screen) to Boku (an interface to do “programming” using Xbox 360 controller as input). Details after the jump.
It is in the times like these, I feel how far behind Apple is.
UPDATE: Engadget’s take on SecondLight.
A particularly AWESOME news, and a great biginning to US Election parade.
